Community Building and Introductions
Hey all! Welcome to the Esports Broadcast Production group. Take a moment when you can to let us know if you're a veteran in the game, recently joining the party, or just spectating from afar.
My name is Depa, and I'm a Broadcast Producer at Riot Games in Berlin for our European Esports Titles. I've been in the industry since 2016, at Riot since 2018!

What's up everyone! What a cool little community this is going to be! Firstly, can confirm the dude above John Depa is a true professional, one of the coolest producers I've had the pleasure to work alongside in the past!
I'm Sam - A Freelance Esports Director & Producer. I started my career working full time for two esports production companies, most notably Executive Producer & Director of Broadcast at ESL in the UK. For the last 4 years, I've hit the road and taken my craft freelance, allowing me to work all over the globe on some of the biggest AAA esports productions. Nothing compares to working on a stadium-sized world finals esports broadcast, from the technical innovation to the creative planning and execution of analysis segments - it's a real unique job!
I personally sit right in the middle between technical broadcast architect and show producer in the pre-production stages, then switch hats for the live and feel most comfortable sitting in the show director position.
In esports - roles are a little different and unique to their TV counterparts - maybe a thread for another time! But essentially in esports, you need to be at least a little bit good at everything, then shine at one thing in particular. For me, that's the directing side of it. I've put together a bunch of behind the scenes recordings (some even showing how we use ShoFlo in esports!) in which we recorded the production talkback line - take a watch if you're interested:
